Terms of service

Last updated: August 25, 2026

The short version

TuneStatus is a small macOS app that shows what you're playing as your Slack status. Spotify support is free. Apple Music support ("TuneStatus Pro") is a one-time purchase, handled by Stripe. There is no subscription and no renewal. If anything goes wrong, email tunestatusapp@gmail.com. Everything below is the longer, more careful version of those sentences.

1. Who these terms are between

"TuneStatus", "we" and "us" mean the independent developer who operates tunestatus.com and publishes the TuneStatus app. "You" means the person using the app or this website. By downloading, installing or using TuneStatus, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use it — deleting the app ends the arrangement completely.

2. What TuneStatus does

TuneStatus runs on your Mac, asks the music app you're already running what is currently playing, and writes that to your own Slack status. It needs macOS 13 or later. It is an independent project: it is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Slack, Spotify, or Apple.

3. Your licence

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use TuneStatus on Macs you own or control. You keep this licence for as long as you use the app; we keep ownership of the app itself.

4. Free and Pro

Spotify support is free and is intended to stay free. TuneStatus Pro adds Apple Music as a source. Pro is a one-time purchase, currently $4.99 USD — not a subscription. Nothing renews, nothing lapses, and there is nothing to cancel. Pro is tied to the Slack account that bought it (your workspace id plus your user id), so it travels with that account rather than with a particular Mac. We may change the price for future buyers; that never changes what you already paid.

5. Payment

Payments are processed by Stripe on Stripe's own checkout pages. Your card details never touch tunestatus.com and we never see them. Prices are charged in US dollars; the amount Stripe shows you before you confirm is the amount charged, and your bank may add its own currency conversion on top. Your purchase is also subject to Stripe's own terms.

6. All sales are final

TuneStatus Pro unlocks as soon as the payment clears, so purchases are final and we don't offer refunds. Please make sure the free version works on your Mac before you buy — Pro reads the Music app exactly the way the free version reads Spotify, over the same Slack connection, so if Spotify shows up in your status the only new step is macOS asking once for permission to read the Music app. If Pro has been paid for and isn't unlocking, that's a bug, not a refund question: email tunestatusapp@gmail.com and we'll fix it. Nothing here takes away a refund right you have under the mandatory consumer law where you live.

7. Fair use of the service

Please don't try to break, overload, or work around the parts of tunestatus.com that check whether an account owns Pro, and don't use TuneStatus to post to a Slack account that isn't yours. We may end access for an account that does.

8. Things outside our control

TuneStatus depends on Slack, on the music app you use, and on macOS's automation permissions. If any of those change how they work, some or all of TuneStatus may stop working until we can adapt. We'll try; we can't promise. We also don't promise the website or the Pro check is available without interruption.

9. Updates

The app asks tunestatus.com shortly after launch, and once a day after that, whether a newer version exists. If one does it asks you first — choose "Update Now" and it downloads and installs itself, choose "Later" and nothing happens. We may change or retire features over time. We may also change these terms — the date at the top changes when we do, and continuing to use TuneStatus after that means you accept the new version.

10. No warranty

TuneStatus is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. You are responsible for what your Slack status says while the app is running.

11. Limit of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of TuneStatus, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you actually paid us in the twelve months before the claim — which for most people is $4.99 or nothing at all. Some jurisdictions don't allow these limits, in which case they apply only as far as they're permitted, and nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator of TuneStatus is established, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If you're a consumer, this doesn't take away the protections of the mandatory consumer law where you live.
